The Field Museum Brachiosaurus
Terminal 1, B Concourse

Airport passengers passing through United Airlines Terminal One at O'Hare International Airport are greeted by a four-story tall model of a Brachiosaurus (pronounced Brock-ee-o-saur-us), the largest mounted dinosaur in the world. The Brachiosaurus lived during the Jurassic period (208-144, million years ago). This was the Age of the Ruling Reptiles. During this period, vegetation was greener and huge plant-eating reptiles Brachiosaurus ruled the land. This treetop eater had high placed nostrils which is believed to have increased the sense of smell or function as a cooling surface for the blood. Now on display in the B Concourse of Terminal One it is hard to assume that this dinosaur once roamed throughout the land. The Field Museum was pleased to partner with United Airlines to introduce the Brachiosaurus to the millions of visitors who pass through O'Hare International each year. This exhibit was presented to O'Hare by the Field Museum, the towering skeleton will identify Chicago as a world-class destination for dinosaur enthusiasts. This Brachiosaurus was modeled from bones excavated in 1900 by Field Museum paleontologist Elmer Riggs.
