Month of the Environment - April 2007
April is here, and with it comes the Chicago Airport System’s
“Month of Environment” event. That’s right - the Airports’
celebration of everything environmentally aware is coming back for round
two. From April 9th to April 27th, local vendors will display
educational kiosks throughout the terminals at O’Hare and Midway. These
displays are aimed at sharing the work they have done in the Chicagoland
area to become environmental stewards. Stop by and have a look at all
the exciting work being done by firms in our area to meet Mayor Daley’s
goal of turning Chicago into the world’s greenest city.
In conjunction with this goal the Chicago Airport System heightened
their recycling efforts for both employees and passengers by increasing
the number of recycling bins placed in terminals and offices. We have
also added compactors to handle cardboard and paper recycling needs.
Look for our green and blue “Chicago Recycles” banners which will be
hung adjacent to the kiosks.
For 2007, the Environment Office will also be placing two of their own
kiosks, one at Midway and one at O’Hare. Unlike other displays, these
are aimed at getting children interested in protecting their
environment. A corresponding Activity Book will be handed out during the
celebration. Other informational handouts (including bookmarks and
postcards) will be distributed to passengers. These documents describe
some of the initiatives the Airports have taken to lessen our impact on
our own environment, and that of our neighbors.

The Environment Office staff would like to send out their thanks to all
of the individuals and departments who helped make last year’s event
