Community Relations & Outreach

O'Hare Community Day

O'Hare hosts many community events throughout the year. As a leading employer and industrial hub for the community O'Hare remains active with local residents through outreach and events to foster social awareness and strengthen relationships with community members.

Community Day 5k Walk/Run

The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) has developed the Community Outreach Vehicle (COV) to address public concerns and to promote the initiatives of the CDA and the Midway and O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission at community events, festivals, schools, and libraries. Video presentations and computer demonstrations of the Airport Noise Management System are provided. The COV also provides demonstrations of the Fly Quiet Program, Residential and School Sound Insulation Programs. The COV is powered by compressed natural gas and is equipped with an ADA compliant automatic hydraulic wheelchair lift.

The COV is also used as a learning tool. It travels to schools located within the City of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs to discuss noise retrieval procedures, data collection, and aviation career possibilities. A portable noise monitor can also be demonstrated so that students can visualize noise levels of various events.

Anyone interested in having the COV visit their neighborhood or school is invited to contact Andrea McKenzie at the Department of Aviation.

Phone: 773-686-7492, E-Mail: andrea.mckenzie@ex.cityofchicago.org or by contacting their City or Village Hall.
