Travel Advisory: April 1 (evening) Lane and Ramp
Closures on I-190 over Bessie Coleman Drive
On Tuesday evening, April 1, 2008, the Department of Aviation will begin the second and final phase of bridge and roadway rehabilitation work on I-190 over Bessie Coleman Drive. This project will involve certain lane and ramp closures, and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2008.
The southbound Mannheim Road exit ramp to West I-190 into OHare International Airport will be closed for the duration of the construction project. Motorists driving south towards the airport on Mannheim Road will be detoured just south of Higgins Road to Bessie Coleman Drive via Zemke Road.
A portion of one of three lanes on I-190 West will be closed during the entire construction period. Temporary lane closures will occur on Bessie Coleman Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday; leaving one lane of traffic available in each direction.
Lane closures will affect the flow of traffic in and around OHare; therefore, air travelers should allow ample time for getting to the airport. Peak travel commute periods include Sunday afternoon and evening, Monday morning and Thursday afternoon and evening.
The first phase of the bridge re-construction project was completed in Fall 2007.
