GALLERY 37 ARTISTS DEBUT "THE COMFORTS OF HOME"
MULTI- MEDIA MURAL AT CHICAGO MIDWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

More than 100 Friends And Family Members To Attend The Dedication Ceremony

The Chicago Airport System is proud to present the dedication of "The Comforts of Home", a multi-media mural created by sixty apprentice artists who participated the City of Chicago’s award-winning Gallery 37 summer program. John A. Roberson, Commissioner of Aviation and Rick Harman, Director of Sales & Marketing for the Midway Hotel Center will host the dedication ceremony Saturday, August 28, 9:30am at the Holiday Inn Select located at 6520 S. Cicero Avenue.

"It is fitting that the Chicago’s airports display the works of talented apprentice artists from Gallery 37," said Aviation Commissioner John A. Roberson. "Visitors from around the world have the opportunity to admire the talent of our artists who reside in our wonderful City," added Roberson.

Sixty apprentice artists worked together in groups of eight to create the mural. The "Comforts of Home" is a mixed media mural exploring the idea of the comforts of home with images that appeal to all five senses. Whether it's the smell of fresh baked cookies, a beloved pet or grandma's old chair, the comforts of home are the things we treasure in our heart wherever we go; the things that remind us of home. This mural is the product of an ambitious collaboration by Gallery 37’s apprentice artists in the painting, ceramics and photography programs.

The mural is sponsored by the Midway Hotel Center and the Department of Aviation and will be located in Midway Airport at the entrance to the A concourse.

More than 100 friends and family members are scheduled to participate in the dedication. Guests will be escorted to view "The Comforts of Home" mural at Midway after the dedication ceremony.

The Department of Aviation has a longstanding relationship with Gallery 37. Currently there are 137 painted benches and more than 450 feet of murals throughout the pedestrian corridors at O’Hare and Midway International Airports. The Gallery 37 Center for the Arts encourages lifelong learning in the arts through its signature jobs training and arts education programs for young Chicagoans.
