CHICAGO –
After closing due to a decrease in air travel after September 11, 2001,
the Department of Aviation will re-open Economy Parking Lot F
permanently tomorrow to accommodate an increase in the number of
motorists who seek economy parking at Chicago O’Hare International
Airport.
“The increase in passenger volume we’ve seen in previous months has
prompted us to offer a greater variety of parking options,” said Chicago
Aviation Commissioner Nuria I. Fernandez. “The rehabilitation and
re-opening of Lot F enables us to increase parking capacity for budget
conscious travelers.”
Overall, the Department of Aviation expects the 2 percent growth in
passenger enplanements seen in the first half of 2006 to continue
throughout the season, making this summer the busiest in O’Hare’s
history. A recent customer survey indicates that 58 percent of travelers
who drive to O’Hare Airport choose to park in an economy parking lot.
Travelers parking in Economy Lot F must board a shuttle bus to Economy
Lot E, where they can access the Airport Transit System (ATS) to the
terminals. Shuttle service runs every seven minutes between 3:30 a.m.
and 11:00 p.m., and every 15 minutes from 11:00 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. The
rate to park in Lot F is $9.00 per day, the lowest daily rate of all of
O’Hare’s parking facilities.
