A REMINDER FOR AIRLINE TRAVELERS
Travelers Should Allow 2-3 Hours Prior to Scheduled Departures
(CHICAGO) -- Monday, September 17, 2001 -- Travelers are strongly advised to contact their airlines for updated information about flight schedules and other necessary arrangements regarding air travel.
Mayor Daley is urging travelers, meeters and greeters to exercise calm and patience during this time. Stepped up security measures have been instituted at airports across the country. These measures include:
- Curbside check-in at O'Hare is permitted on a limited basis. Travelers should contact their carrier for more details. Curbside check-in is not permitted at Midway. Skycaps, however, will assist travelers with bags from the curb to the ticket counters.
- Off-airport check-in is not permitted. Passengers are not allowed to check-in at hotels or other venues. Passengers must check-in at the airports.
- Only ticketed passengers will be permitted beyond security checkpoints.Travelers with electronic tickets are allowed to pass through security checkpoints with a receipt and photo identification.
- Vehicles are allowed to pick-up/drop-off in front of terminals. Unattended vehicles or waiting vehicles will be towed immediately.
- A thorough search and security check of all aircraft before passengers allowed to board.
Parking at Midway and O'Hare is open and travelers are advised to use public transportation, the Blue Line to O'Hare and the Orange Line to Midway. Taxi cab, limousine and shuttle bus service are operating on normal schedules.
The airlines are integrating their schedules at various percentage capacities with delays and cancellations.
International service has been restored based upon carrier and airport. Travelers are advised to contact their airline for updates regarding international service. Travelers should allow at least 3 hours prior to departure for international travel.
Those travelers meeting unaccompanied minors must check with the airline for procedures regarding air travel arrangements for unaccompanied minors.
