Attention Pilots and All Other O'Hare Airfield Users

On December 12, 2013, another set of taxiway name changes will occur at ORD. These are part of an overall plan to rename the airfield to meet new FAA regulations and to prepare for the full implementation of the O’Hare Modernization Program. A significant milestone will be reached with this change, in that the last of the prefix “W” taxiways will be removed. O’Hare’s airfield will now meet the new FAA regulation of single and double letter taxiway names.

The changes are:

  • Taxiway WT becomes M
  • Taxiway C2 becomes M1
  • Taxiway F1 becomes M2
  • Taxiway MM becomes PP
  • Taxiway R north of Runway 9R/27L becomes E1
  • Taxiway R east of Runway 4L/22R becomes A2
  • Taxiway R between Runways 9R/27L and 4L/22R gets demolished resulting in the removal of Airfield Hot Spot #1
  • Airfield Hot Spots #2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be renumbered #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 respectively

The changes are part of an overall taxiway renaming implementation plan for O'Hare that will evolve over the course of the next several months and beyond to encompass the full construction of the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP).
