Portable Noise Monitor Reports

Since 1996, the Airport Noise Management System (ANMS) has enabled the City of Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) to monitor the amount of noise generated from aircraft operating at Chicago O'Hare and Midway International Airports. The portable noise monitors allow the CDA to provide homeowners with specific information about aircraft noise levels at a specific home during a sample two-week monitoring period. This data is for your information only. Due to strict Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines, the data collected by the portable noise monitors will not be used to determine eligibility for our Residential Sound Insulation Program.

The CDA deploys portable noise monitors at no cost to homeowners; there is no rental charge or user fee to request a portable noise monitor. Due to a high volume of requests for portable noise monitors, the CDA has a backlog of portable monitor deployments. Once you have submitted the application to the CDA (see link to PDF file below), we will contact you to set up a date and time for deployment. After the portable noise monitor has been deployed and the monitoring is complete, the CDA will provide you with a detailed summary report of the aircraft noise measurements.
