The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) recognizes that neighborhoods surrounding Midway International Airport (Midway) are affected by noise from aircraft operations. The CDA is committed to minimizing these aircraft noise impacts on the neighboring communities. Over the years the CDA has engaged stakeholders to develop and implement noise abatement programs, sound-insulate homes and schools, and explore new elements intended to enhance and improve our noise programs.
Preliminary Draft of the Midway Part 150 Noise Exposure Map Update
The CDA is conducting an update to its Part 150 Noise Exposure Map (NEM) to document the noise levels from aircraft operations for existing and future conditions at Chicago Midway International Airport (Midway or Airport). This document is prepared pursuant to Title 14 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) Part 150, Airport Noise Compatibility Planning. This update conforms to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) directive that the NEMs stay current with local conditions. The CDA's goal is to obtain the FAA's acceptance of the new existing and future conditions NEMs to ensure that ongoing residential sound insulation programs can continue to receive FAA grant funding. The entire Draft Part 150 Study Update with appendices is available below.
